WORKSHOP // FROM SKIRM TO SQIRM: AN IKEATHYOLOGY FISH SCHOOL

Join us for an intensive arts-based fish school and research-creation workshop led by Sean Smith exploring IKEA as an immersive and programmable media environment. We will attempt to engage our creative capacities with an aquatic reading of Tavi Meraud's figure of the Skirmonaut, by flipping *through* the screen to the other side of the looking glass: IKEATHYOLOGY as uncanny movement from Skirm to Sqirm.

This Field Study School is an extension of Sean Smith’s talk with the Lectures on Ahuman Pedagogy series organized by Jessie Beier & jan jagodzinski. Learn more about Ikeathyology here!

IKTH 100: Introduction to Ikeathyology

The sub-branch of zoology devoted to the study of IKEA fish, which also includes the study of IKEA performed by fish themselves [from Swedish-Greek: ikheathys, "common sense fish"; and logos, "study"]. This hybrid research-creation studio-performance-lecture speculatively explores the physics, metaphysics and 'pataphysics of the programmed IKEA retail experience, with field notes and creative responses woven from theories and practices adapted from architecture, media, art, poetics, philosophy, photo-essay, and walking study.
