Researching Research-Creation

The Researching Research-Creation symposium investigates various configurations of research-creation, practice-led research, practice-based research, and/or artistic research in the context of the development of doctoral programs for artist-scholars.

The Researching Research-Creation Symposium brings together four scholars who have been active in shaping the ways we understand research-creation, practice-led methodologies, and the alternative epistemologies and ontologies championed by such practices.

Dr. Fiona Candlin is Senior Lecturer in Museum Studies in the History of Art Department at Birkbeck, University of London.

Dr. Murdo Macdonald is Professor of History of Scottish Art at the University of Dundee.

Dr. Erin Manning holds a University Research Chair in Relational Art and Philosophy in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Concordia University (Montreal, Canada).

Dr. George Smith has long been a leader and innovator in American education. As Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College at the Maine College of Art, he designed and founded one of America’s first low residency MFA programs.
